“雷電将軍 OL” by Piukute062
Greetings earthlings and welcome to yet another art review, featuring the wonderful artist Piukute062. They were kind enough to give me the green light on review some time ago, so I’m finally setting things in motion. Piukute is a fairly well known artist who has mastered the art of creating voluptuous characters in mesmerizing scenes. Introductory elements outta the way, let’s dive into the ocean of content.
I’m going to start with elements that jump out at me, beginning with the hair and head and work my way down, to be a little bit systematic here. First and foremost, Piukute’s ability to give volume and shape to anything shines through quite well with the hair of their characters. This piece is certainly no exception and I like how our artist is able to go between large shapes and clumps to finer details to give depth and detail to their anime style. On a finer note, I really love that little peak around the hairline, where you see the dark space where a few strands of hair run down the sides of the face. Just a style that I happen to really love. I also appreciate the shape and color choice of the hair highlight, where it is a slightly lighter tone of the base color instead of a light or very bright white tone. A subtle difference but one that stands out I would say.
Moving on to the rest of the face, I love the way that Piukute handles this part of their characters. The eyes have a wonderful set of details with the way the irises are drawn to the direction and implication of the highlights and the little notes of detail in the eyelashes. The little bit of highlight on the plump area of the lip helps to draw the onlooker’s attention in a really nice way as well. Something that I wanted to note are the details of the inner ear and ear shape. I believe I may have mentioned elsewhere that almost every artist has a different interpretation of the ear and it’s inner workings, and I want to bring attention to how Piukute is thinking about this. The level of detail and attention that looks to have been put into the ear, and the decision making with shading really helps add to the immersion of the piece in my opinion. It’s one of those details that might be easy to overlook, as it’s the kind of thing you don’t immediately think about when you say “beautiful character” however it has a tremendous ability to make or break a face in my opinion.
Moving on, I want to briefly turn our attention to the area around the neck and collarbone. This is one such area where Piukute shows just the right amount of complexity mixed in with the more simplified anime style, that keeps the eye interested as it moves around the painting. There isn’t a crazy amount of strokes or little muscles, but just the right amount of emphasis put on the muscles and anatomy of those part of the body. Where some artists may stop at just a few simple lines for the collarbone and simplified shapes for the other areas, Piukute has gone just a few steps further to add a little flair.
Just as I decided to give this article a name fitting of the office setting, this piece would be incomplete without the good ol’ button down shirt. This might be a piece that’s easy to overlook because it’s done so well but, the creases and the application of light and dark are really on point here. If it were just 10% different I think it would completely change the dynamic of the entire piece. Same thing with the office skirt, the folds and creases in both it and the jacket in her hand add to the immersion by being just right, almost to the point that you don’t notice it. It looks exactly like it belongs because the execution of the techniques is done so well.
Lastly, I just want to mention a few of the other auxiliary elements that work together to complete this piece. The posing of the character and the very natural look of the attire make the piece attractive and give it elements that you are drawn in by as well as elements that you can resonate with. We can all probably relate to the office setting on some level or another, and that’s exactly why the beauty of the character can stand out so much more as it is juxtaposed with very familiar elements. Additionally, while the blurred background does not pretend to be the focus of the piece, it adds to the setting and kind of reminds you that the character is the main article of the picture. All the elements are designed to draw the viewer to focus on the shape and silhouette of the character’s body and the various details. Be it the eyes, hair, lips or buxomy-ness of the character, those elements form the real content of the piece.
All in all, if you are looking for a reference in creating beautiful, sexy characters in a wide variety of scenes, then you probably wanna give Piukute a follow.
